Baptism, Weddings & Funerals
Whether you’re exploring the possibility of a church christening, wedding or funeral, or whether you’ve already decided; if you live in the Parish, St Andrew’s and St Michael’s are your parish churches and we would love to perform your ceremony. You can book in for any of these at the Parish Office on Saturdays 11.00am – 12 noon – in St. Andrew’s Church, Landor Road.
Set out below are links to a dedicated website for each type of ceremony, which tells you more about each of them and provides you with a step by step guide to what happens and what you need to think about and plan for. Our Vicar, Rev. Erica Wooff, will be delighted to talk you through all aspects and answer any questions you may have.
Please click through on this link to learn more about child baptisms. Children can be baptised at any age.
If you are an adult and you want to consider baptism, please do contact Erica to discuss this. The baptism service is similar to the service for a child's baptism, except that because you make the decision and the promises yourself, there is no role required for parents or godparents (who make decisions and promises on behalf of a child). You may decide to have supporting friends or 'sponsors' - this can be anyone who wishes to encourage you in your Christian faith. It may be a friend, or someone in your family and you may have more than one person if you wish. More information is available on this link:
You may also wish to combine this with confirmation, which would involve some discussion with other adults on ways of exploring the Christian faith, followed by a wonderful service with the Bishop. Please talk to our vicar, Erica, about which would be best for you at this stage in your faith journey.
Congratulations on your engagement! An exciting and happy time lies ahead and there will be so much to think about. If you’re wondering how to make a start on all the planning and preparations for the service, this link will guide you through everything you need to know.
The Church will always be here to help you through one of life’s most difficult times. A Church of England funeral is available to everyone, giving support before, during and after the service, for as long as it’s needed. How can we help you now? Use the link here to begin.
